Card Falls to Carolina

Stanford finishes the regular season 10-5

STANFORD, Calif. - Wrestling in its final dual of the season, No. 17 Stanford fell to No. 16 North Carolina, 24-9, Friday, at Maples Pavilion.

Stanford (10-5, 2-4 ACC) won just three of the nine contested bouts against the Tar Heels (9-5, 5-1 ACC). The win put North Carolina in a three-way tie for the ACC regular season dual title with NC State and Virginia Tech.

Friday marked the final home dual for Cardinal fifth years Peter Ming, Jason Miranda and Nick Stemmet, and sixth year Jaden Abas. The group has amassed a combined 304 wins during their Stanford careers.

Stemmet, ranked No. 15 nationally at 197 pounds, registered his 98th career victory with a 5-4 decision over Robert Platt. He has won nine consecutive matches, improving to 19-8 overall and 11-4 in duals. 

Ranked No. 21, Miranda turned in a 2-0 decision over No. 22 Jayden Scott at 141 pounds in his final match on The Farm. He is 15-6 overall and 5-4 in duals. The win was the 60th of his career. 

No. 13 Hunter Garvin also notched a win for Stanford on Friday, earning a 4-1 sudden victory decision over former Cardinal teammate Charlie Darracott at 165 pounds. The redshirt sophomore is now 17-6 overall and 10-2 in duals.

Up next, Stanford prepares for the ACC Championships being held March 9 at Duke.
