Men’s Basketball Completes ACC Sweep of Cal

Raynaud led the Cardinal with his fourth-consecutive 20-point outing when facing the Bears

STANFORD, Calif. – On a night when the program honored legendary head coach Mike Montgomery, Stanford men’s basketball earned a regular season sweep over rival California, downing the Golden Bears 66-61 on Saturday at Maples Pavilion. The Cardinal improves to 17-10 this season with a 9-7 mark in the ACC.

Maxime Raynaud led the offense with 20 points to go with eight rebounds and three blocks. The senior from Paris moved past Tom Dose ’64 and Oscar da Silva ’21 for 16th-place on Stanford’s all-time scoring list, moving within just 12 points of tying for 15th and becoming the program’s all-time leading international scorer.

Oziyah Sellers finished with 14 points, including a perfect 7-for-7 mark at the free throw line, while Ryan Agarwal scored 11 points and Jaylen Blakes had 10. The Cardinal defense forced 13 California (12-15, 5-11 ACC) turnovers while holding the Golden Bears to 34.5 percent shooting from the floor.

Tipping off in front of a near sellout crowd, Stanford held California to 31 percent from the floor in the first half, leading 28-22 at the break. After a 7-0 run from Cal to open the game, Stanford stormed back to take the lead with a 14-3 run, and the home team led by as many as 10 points in the first half with 1:01 to play, 28-18.

The Cardinal led by as many as 17 points in the second half, 47-30, as Agarwal scored all 11 of his points over the final 20 minutes. The Bears managed to tie the game late, 61-61, with 42 seconds to play, but Raynaud and Sellers closed the game at the free throw line to give Stanford the win.

Stanford earned its fourth consecutive victory over California and earned its first regular season sweep of its rival since 2021. Stanford has won eight of the last 12 matchups and is 2-0 in the Kyle Smith era.

Continuing its three-game homestand, Stanford welcomes Boston College on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 6 p.m. The action will air on ACC Network.
