STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford (6-0) recorded its third come-from-behind victory of the season on Saturday, flipping a 9-6 deficit into an 11-9 win over Washington (2-4) to secure the first two games of a four-game series from Sunken Diamond.
With the win, Stanford has won the first six games of the 2025 season.
The Cardinal trailed 1-0 after one pitch as Sam DeCarlo connected for a leadoff home run off Stanford starter Christian Lim.
Lim did not factor into the decision after allowing six runs on five hits and three walks with five strikeouts over 3 1/3 innings.
Senior Trevor Haskins continued his torrid start to the season, connecting for a go-ahead three-run home run in the bottom of the third. Brady Reynolds followed suit with a three-run homer of his own later in the third as Stanford hung a six on the board in the frame to lead 6-1 after three.
Haskins, who has now homered in back-to-back games, finished the contest 2-for-5 with two runs scored and four RBIs. Reynolds’ three-run blast, his lone hit in a 1-for-2 day that included a walk and a hit-by-pitch, extended his team lead in homers to three.
The Huskies wasted no time punching right back after giving up the crooked number in the third inning, tagging Stanford for eight runs in the fourth to reclaim a lead at 9-6. The big inning for Washington was highlighted by a two-RBI double from Blake Wilson and a bases-clearing three-run double from Casen Taggart.
Ben Reimers was the last of three Cardinal pitchers used in the fourth inning, recording the final two outs in the frame and sending the Stanford bats back to work.
Brandon Larson, making his first start of the year and batting second as the Cardinal designated hitter, came up clutch with a two-out run-scoring single to plate Charlie Bates and cut the deficit to two at 9-7. Larson finished the game 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while Bates was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and a double.
The Cardinal completed the comeback with four runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by RBI-singles from Haskins and Larson.
Nick Dugan, who took the ball in relief of Reimers and was credited with the victory, provided 1 2/3 scoreless innings before Toran O’Harran grabbed the baton and carried it through the eighth by recording four big outs down the stretch.
Sophomore Aidan Keenan, who closed out a 2-0 shutout on Friday, returned to the hill on Saturday to pitch a 1-2-3 ninth inning, including one strikeout, and convert his third save of the season.
Stanford will look to keep the momentum going on Sunday as the two teams continue a four-game series at 1:05 p.m. Right-hander Joey Volchko will make his second start of the year for Stanford and will be opposed by righty Tommy Brandenburg for Washington.
