Stanford Sweeps Vanguard

Wagner records match-high 16 kills

COSTA MESA, Calif. – Led by Moses Wagner, No. 10 Stanford swept Vanguard, 26-24, 25-14, 29-27, Saturday, at the Freed Center for Leadership and Service.

Stanford (6-5) hit .263, while holding Vanguard (3-6) to a .039 clip – the second-lowest output by a Cardinal opponent this season.

Wagner led all players with 16 kills on a season-best .538 attack percentage. The junior also matched his career-high with six blocks and had five digs and two aces.

Setter Theoren Brouillette dished out 27 assists and notched two kills, two digs and a block. Freshman libero Evan Porter finished with five digs.

Freshman outside hitter David Wolff made his second consecutive start, registering nine kills, four digs and three blocks. Outside hitter Nate Clinton added six kills, four digs, three aces and a block.

Stanford middle blockers Luke McFall and Reed Wainwright each tallied five blocks, helping the Cardinal register 11.5 as a team – its third-most this season.

Vanguard was led by outside hitter Grant Dvorak’s nine kills, while middle blocker Nick Dvorak recorded a match-high seven blocks, including three solo.

Stanford returns to The Farm next week to close out nonconference play, hosting UC Merced on Friday and No. 13 UC San Diego on Saturday.
