STANFORD, Calif. – Christine Carpenter was named MPSF Player of the Week for Feb. 25, helping No. 1 Stanford remain unbeaten and capture the Barbara Kalbus Invitational title.
Carpenter earned the first weekly honor of her career as Stanford (11-0, 0-0 MPSF) defeated No. 2 USC 10-6 in the championship game. The Cardinal has won three of the last four tournaments and is a seven-time event champion overall.
Stanford opened with routs of Cal State Fullerton (19-6) and UC San Diego (17-3) before easily cruising past defending NCAA champion UCLA 14-4 in the semifinals, representing its largest margin of victory against the Bruins in school history.
In three games, Carpenter totaled 24 saves, including a career-high 13 stops against USC in the final. The Trojans were limited to six goals on 32 shots and a 2-for-11 mark on the power play.
Carpenter has anchored a defense that has allowed eight goals or fewer in every game this season. Carpenter has made a team-leading 61 saves this season while filling a key spot vacated by two-time All-American goalkeeper Maya Avital, who closed out her career ranking second in program history with 613 saves.
Stanford’s home opener is set for Sunday, March 2, against UC Davis at 1 p.m. It’s the first of five home contests at Avery Aquatic Center for the Cardinal in 2025.
