STANFORD, Calif. — Having won its fourth-consecutive MPSF Championship two weeks ago, Stanford finishes out the home slate of meets this weekend, hosting the USA Artistic Swimming Western Regionals on Saturday, March 1 before honoring its seniors in a dual meet against Ohio State on Sunday, March 2. Technical competition is slated to begin at 10 a.m. while routines are scheduled for noon on both days.
In what has been a dominant season to date, Stanford heads into the weekend doubleheader having won its fourth MPSF Artistic Swimming title and remains the only institution to win the conference since Artistic Swimming was sponsored in 2022. Freshman Megumi Field was named the MPSF Rookie and Swimmer of the Meet having set an MPSF record with 74 individual points, courtesy of first place finishes in the duet, trio and team competitions. Field also claimed first in Tech A during the two-day meet.
Stanford, which tied the highest team total of 102 team points it set back in 2022, claimed First Team honors with Field and fellow freshman Dalia Ovadia and Calista Liu having been given the kudos. Ovadia and Field were part of the first place finishes in the duo, trio and team events while Liu grabbed the event win in the team portion and picked up second place finishes in duo and trio.
On Saturday, the Cardinal looks to follow up a solid performance it had at the Western Regionals two years ago, having taken first place at home as part of a senior weekend doubleheader. Stanford grabbed first place with 86 team points during the regional before dispatching UCLA in a senior day dual to complete the weekend.
This weekend, the Cardinal also plays host to one of the sports powerhouse programs and recent competitors - Ohio State. The Cardinal trekked up to Columbus, Ohio just over a month ago and defeated the Buckeyes at the Jessica Beck Invitational to repeat as meet champions. Courtesy of four event wins, the Cardinal cleared OSU by eight points in the standings with dominant displays from Field, Ovadia and top solo performer Emmanuella Tchakmakjian.
Tchakmakjian and fellow seniors Nicole Goot and Lindi Schroeder will be honored as part of Stanford’s Senior Day festivities on Sunday against the Buckeyes. All three have been a part of Stanford’s dominance in the MPSF with the three seniors having won a conference title in each of their four years on The Farm. The trio has also made history at the national level as part of Stanford’s 2024 USA Collegiate Nationals team event championship group.
