LOS ANGELES – No. 13 Stanford men’s tennis continued its winning streak away from home, sweeping No. 25 UCLA, 4-0, for its fourth straight victory and fifth overall this season. The road sweep in Los Angeles marked Stanford's first sweep of the LA schools since 2021-22 and the first road sweep since 2008-09.
Stanford took an early lead in doubles with wins on courts two and three. UCLA picked up the first doubles win, but Samir Banerjee and Henry von der Schulenburg picked up a doubles win over the nation’s No. 10 ranked pair to force a decision on court three. Max Basing and Hudson Rivera outlasted their opponents in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (5), to earn the Cardinal a 1-0 advantage.
Picking up its third shutout of the season in six matches, von der Schulenburg extended the lead to 2-0 with a straight-set win on court three, 6-4, 6-4. Banerjee added a win on court one over the nation’s 13th-ranked player in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, while Rivera clinched the match on court four with a ranked win of his own, beating the ITA’s 93rd-ranked player, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3.
Stanford returns to action in Waco, Texas at the ITA Indoor National Championships. Matchups for the event will be revealed in the buildup to the tournament.
