Stanford Falls in Five at Hawaii

Snoey had a match-high 19 kills

HONOLULU – Playing in its first five set match of the season, No. 9 Stanford fell to No. 4 Hawaii, 25-23, 20-25, 19-25, 25-20, 14-16, Wednesday, in SimpliFi Arena at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Stanford (3-4) out hit Hawaii (9-0) .290 to .269. The Cardinal also out blocked the Rainbow Warriors, 12.0 to 5.0. Stanford hit .300 or better in every set except the second.

Junior outside hitter Theo Snoey registered a season-high 19 kills on .350 hitting, nine digs, two blocks and two aces to lead the team. Opposite Moses Wagner added 14 kills, seven digs and two aces. He also recorded five blocks, including two solo.

Setter Theoren Brouillette controlled the offense with 43 assists to go with three digs, three blocks, two kills and two aces. Freshman libero Evan Porter, who hails from Honolulu, collected eight digs and six assists.

Junior outside hitter Nate Clinton finished with 10 kills, four digs and a block. Freshman Reed Wainwright earned his second consecutive start at middle blocker, turning in five kills on .444 hitting and five blocks, while freshman Kaumana Carreira chipped in with four kills and four blocks.

Hawaii, which owns a 12-match winning streak over the Cardinal, was led by setter Tread Rosenthal who had 48 assists, six kills, seven digs and three aces. His final kill came on match point.

Stanford and Hawaii will square off again on Friday at 9 p.m. PT on ESPN+.
