STANFORD, Calif. – Ryan Agarwal scored the game-winning basket with eight seconds to go, as Stanford defeated NC State, 74-73, on Saturday at Maples Pavilion. The Cardinal improves to 16-8 this season and 8-5 in the ACC.
Maxime Raynaud led the Cardinal with 25 points and 12 rebounds, notching his nation-leading 20th double-double of the season. The 20 double-doubles tie the program’s single-season record, originally set by Adam Keefe in the 1991-92 campaign. Oziyah Sellers scored 12 points while Chisom Okpara and Evan Stinson each had 10, a career-high for Stinson.
Agarwal stuffed the stat sheet with nine points, including the game-winner, to go with seven rebounds and a career-high eight assists. Stanford shot 50 percent from the floor as a team, helping the program to its 13th home win in 15 contests.
Stanford got out to a slow start, trailing for a majority of the opening half. Sellers scored 10 of his 12 points over the first 20 minutes, but NC State (9-14, 2-10 ACC) led at the half, 33-29.
The Cardinal tied the game at 41-41 before the first timeout of the second half, as Raynaud scored nine of Stanford’s first 14 points of the period. The Cardinal led by as many as nine points, 61-52 with 8:29 to play, but the Wolfpack rallied regain the lead, 73-72, with 17 seconds to go. Agarwal went coast-to-coast for the game winner with eight second left, and NC State’s triple at the buzzer was no good.
Stanford returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at Georgia Tech. The 4 p.m. PT tip will air on ACC Network.
