Katherine Clinches for the Cardinal

Hui's 6-3, 0-6, 6-4 win at No. 3 carries Stanford to 4-2 victory over Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill. – No. 4 Stanford bounced back from its first loss of the season with a 4-2 consolation win over host Northwestern at the ITA Indoor Championship on Saturday night.

Sophomore Katherine Hui picked up the second clincher of her career on court 3 and her first three-set victory at Stanford by beating Britany Lau 6-3, 0-6, 6-4.

The Cardinal lost the doubles point for the second consecutive day but quickly responded in singles with wins from Valerie Glozman on court 1 (6-3, 6-3), Valencia Xu on court 4 (6-2, 6-1) and Caroline Driscoll on court 6 (6-4, 6-0).

Northwestern’s Sydney Pratt beat Chidimma Okpara at No. 5, 6-4, 6-3 to pull the Wildcats within a point and bring the match down to Connie Ma on court 2 and Hui.

Tied at three games apiece in the deciding set, Hui broke Lau to go up 4-3 and take control. Hui was 0-2 in three-setters during her freshman season.

Ma, who dropped her first set 7-5, forced a third with a 6-3 win in the second, and was up a game when her match was abandoned.

Stanford’s final match in Evanston will be against No. 13 Tennessee tomorrow at 2 p.m. PT.
