STANFORD, Calif. – No. 18 Stanford (3-0) won two games in two very different fashions today – the Card shut out Fresno State in a 3-0 win, then run-ruled Seattle U 17-7 in five innings. The 17 runs against Seattle are tied for the third-most in a single game in program history.

Senior Kylie Chung and sophomore Alyssa Houston combined for a gem in the circle against Fresno State, allowing just two hits and striking out six. Freshman Joie Economides provided the offense, crushing her first career homer in the second inning to score two. The long ball also served as the first Cardinal homer at Stanford Stadium.

In the third, junior Kyra Chan drove in a run with an RBI single to make it a 3-0 lead.

Chung (2-0) earned the win after getting the start and tossing 4.0+ strong innings. After a leadoff walk to open the fifth, Houston entered and immediately induced a double play to clear the baserunner. A punchout ended the inning, and Houston wouldn’t allow Seattle to put another runner on base.

The native of Benton, Arkansas struck out four in her three innings of work, picking up her second save of the season.

In the second half of Stanford’s doubleheader, the bats carried the way.

Freshman Zoe Prystajko (1-0) started and made her debut in the circle, but a three-run homer in the top of the first made for an early 3-0 Stanford deficit. The lead was short-lived however, with Stanford immediately answering.

The Card scored three times in the home half of the first, pushing runs across via an error, a bases-loaded walk, and an RBI fielder’s choice.

After the first, the Stanford runs started coming off of loud contact. The team combined for five doubles, including two from grad student Caelan Koch. Koch finished the game 2-for-3 with three runs driven in.

The Cardinal closes out the weekend tomorrow against Fresno State at 12:30 p.m. PT. Tickets are available at Tickets.GoStanford.com, and the game can be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
