DALLAS -- Six Stanford men’s swimmers competed at the SMU Last Chance Invitational Thursday through Saturday and came away with five personal bests and four additions or improvements to Stanford’s Top 15 all-time lists.
Three Top-15 performances by the Cardinal at Robson and Lindley Aquatics Center were top-five efforts.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Zhier Fan improved upon his PB by 0.01. His time of 51.28 earned him a victory in the final and strengthened his hold on the No. 2 spot in Stanford history. Ron Polonsky has the Stanford record at 50.87.
In third in the same race was teammate Rick Mihm, who clocked 51.95. Mihm came into the meet with a best of 54.53, but cast that PB out of the way with a 52.26 in the prelims to move into the Top 15 at No. 10, and improved upon that in the final.
Andres Dupont Cabrera, swimming alone in a timed final of the 100 freestyle, recorded a personal best of 41.72, moving up one spot to No. 3 all-time at Stanford. Dupont Cabrera passes Olympian Ben Wildman-Tobriner, who swam 41.90 in 2007. Dupont Cabrera’s previous best was 41.97.
Next for Stanford swimmers is the NCAA Championships March 26-29 in Federal Way, Washington.
