Errors Costly Against the Waves

Stanford falls in four to Pepperdine

STANFORD, Calif. – Plagued by 26 hitting errors, No. 11 Stanford fell to No. 9 Pepperdine, 16-25, 20-25, 25-23, 17-25, Friday, in Burnham Pavilion.

Stanford (7-9, 0-3 MPSF) was held to a .145 attack percentage, while Pepperdine (11-4, 3-0 MPSF) posted a .330 clip. The Cardinal finished with 42 kills, 31 digs, 5.0 blocks and four aces.

Junior Moses Wagner led the team with his second double-double of the season, notching 14 kills on .273 hitting and 10 digs. He also had three blocks, including one of the solo variety to clinch the third set.



Setter Theoren Brouillette dished out 39 assists and had five digs, a kill and a block. Freshman libero Evan Porter registered a match-high 11 digs - the second time this season he has reached double figures.



Outside hitter Theo Snoey recorded 13 kills and two digs. He also tallied three of the Cardinal’s four aces. Serving specialist Kai Schmitt had the other, coming off the bench in three of the four sets.



Freshman middle blocker Kaumana Carreira hit .417 with seven kills on 12 swings with just two miscues. He also had a pair of blocks.

Pepperdine had three players in double figures, led by Ryan Barnett’s 14 kills on .458 hitting. James Eadie added 13 kills on a .579 attack percentage and five blocks, while opposite Cole Hartke chipped in with 13 kills, two aces and two blocks.  

Stanford and Pepperdine meet again on Saturday at 6 p.m. in Maples Pavilion.
