Stanford Secures Stellar Saturday

No. 5 Cardinal posts two 5-0 victories in its final matches before breaking for final exams

STANFORD, Calif. – Fresh off a flawless Friday full of action, No. 5 Stanford earned two more 5-0 sweeps Saturday, topping both Texas A&M Corpus Christi and Saint Mary’s at Stanford Beach Volleyball Stadium. 

Through 18 matches, Stanford sits with a 13-5 record, including 11 5-0 victories. 

No. 5 Stanford captured its third consecutive 5-0 victory with its second win of the weekend over Texas A&M- Corpus Christi to kick off Saturday’s slate. Senior Taylor Wilson and Sophomore Ruby Sorra earned the first point of the match with a 21-11, 21-15 win on court two, followed by a 21-16, 21-18 victory on court four from sophomores Chloe Hoffman and Clara Stowell. Freshman Avery Jackson and sophomore Brooke Rockwell secured the win for the Cardinal on court one with a 21-12, 21-19 victory on court one. Stanford’s threes pair of freshman Charlotta Bell and junior Kelly Belardi followed suit with a 21-17, 21-12 win and the newly minted duo of fifth year Emmy Sharp and freshman Indigo Clarke closed out the match with a 21-14, 24-22 win on court five. 

Stanford kept the stellar Saturday action going in its 2 p.m. matchup against the Gaels, securing a straight-set sweep against its Bay-Area opponent. Hoffman and Stowell snagged the 1-0 match lead with a 21-16, 21-14 victory on court four. The Cardinal quickly took a 2-0 advantage with a 21-16, 21-13 win by Sorra/Wilson on court two, and the match was quickly won for Stanford by Sharp and junior Daria Gusarova on court five 21-13, 21-10. The win on court five is Sharp and Gusarova's eighth consecutive victory as a pair, currently sitting at 8-0 on the year. Bell/Belardi won their second match of the day to push the score to 4-0, topping SMC's Bane/Travis 21-11, 21-14, and Rockwell/Jackson clinched the straight-set sweep with a 21-16, 21-19 win on court one. 

The Cardinal takes a break for final exams week, returning to action March 28-29 in Baton Rouge, La. at the Death Valley Invitational hosted by LSU.
