STANFORD, Calif. – No. 18 Stanford topped Nevada this afternoon 2-1, moving to 20-3 on the season and a perfect 15-0 at Stanford Stadium. River Mahler hit what would prove to be the game-winning home run, and Cardinal pitchers limited the Wolf Pack to just one run on four hits.
Stanford struck first in the second inning, with Kyra Chan driving an RBI double into the left-center gap. Then in the third, Mahler doubled the lead with a solo home run to center.
Mahler’s home run was her fourth of the year, after entering the season with no home runs in her first two seasons on The Farm. The run driven in was Mahler’s 26th of the season, leading the team.
Kylie Chung exited the circle after four shutout innings, striking out two and allowing just two hits.
Nevada broke up the shutout in the top of the sixth, scoring to make it 2-1.
Alyssa Houston shut the door in the seventh, striking out three to earn her third save of the season. Houston finished the day with just one run allowed on two hits in three innings, striking out six.
Stanford pitchers finished the weekend with three runs allowed in three games, striking out 23 and allowing just seven hits.
Stanford hits the road next week, starting with a three-game series at Notre Dame. Game one against the Fighting Irish is set for Friday at 3:00 p.m. PT. The game can be streamed at ACC Network Extra. The Cardinal will be at home next on April 2 against Saint Mary’s.
