Stanford Falls in Four to Pepperdine

Cardinal drops to 0-4 in the MPSF

STANFORD, Calif. – For the second consecutive night, No. 11 Stanford fell in four sets to No. 9 Pepperdine, 22-25, 25-18, 20-25, 16-25, Saturday, in Maples Pavilion.

Stanford (7-10, 0-4 MPSF) hit .278 as a team and finished with 51 kills, 26 digs and 6.0 blocks. Pepperdine (12-4, 4-0 MPSF) posted a .337 attack percentage as a team, recording 50 kills, 24 digs and 12.0 blocks.

Outside hitter Theo Snoey led Stanford with 18 kills, three digs, three blocks and the team’s lone ace. Junior Ryan DuRoss, who started the match at outside hitter, had a season-high 11 kills on .350 hitting, four digs, three assists and a block.



Setter Theoren Brouillette controlled the offense with 46 assists to go with four digs and a block. Opposite Moses Wagner chipped in with eight kills, four digs and two blocks.



The Cardinal played two liberos for the first time this season. Freshman Evan Porter finished with five digs, while freshman Kai Schmitt had two digs and carried a heavy load on serve receive with 32 total attempts.

Middle blocker Luke McFall hit .636 with nine kills on 11 swings with just two errors. The junior also tallied three blocks and two digs. Freshman middle blocker Kaumana Carreira added five kills, two blocks and two digs.



Pepperdine outside hitter Ryan Barnett posted a match-high 19 kills on .364 hitting, three digs, three blocks and an ace. Opposite Cole Hartke totaled 13 kills on a .345 attack percentage and six blocks.

Up next, Stanford will host an alumni match on Saturday, March 22 before returning to conference play with a home-and-home against Menlo College, March 28-29.
