Cardinal Earns No. 13 Overall Seed for NCAA Championships

Stanford enters the race for a national championship crown ranked as a top-16 seed for the first time in the NCAA Championships’ new format

STANFORD, Calif. -- For the first time in its new format, Stanford women’s gymnastics will enter the chase for a national title ranked as a top-16 seeded program as the Cardinal earned the No. 13 overall seed for the NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championship Tournament, the NCAA announced on ESPNU Monday. Stanford will kick off its run to the NCAA Championships in the second round of the NCAA Regional Championships on April 3 against No. 1 seed Utah, Denver, and the winner of Utah State/BYU.

Stanford will be the No. 4 seed in the Salt Lake City Regional with No. 4 (No. 1 seed) Utah, No. 5 (No. 2 Seed) UCLA, No. 12* (No. 3 Seed) Minnesota, No. 18 (No. 5 seed) Denver, No. 24  (No. 6 seed) Southern Utah,  No. 7 seed Boise State,  No. 8 seed BYU and No. 9 seed Utah State. Individual competitors on each event and in the all-around competition will also compete for a chance to advance to the national championships.

The top 36 teams based on the national qualifying score were selected for regional competition. The committee named the top 16 teams and seeded them in the bracket. Seeding determined at the time of selections will be maintained throughout the championship.

Teams 17-36 were placed geographically at one of the four regional sites. Nine teams will compete at each of those four sites, with the top two at each site advancing to Fort Worth, Texas, for the NCAA Championships held April 17-19. The other three NCAA regional sites are Seattle, Wash., Tuscaloosa, Ala., and University Park, Penn.

The regional will be held April 3-5 with the Cardinal scheduled to start its nationals run in the second round on Thursday, April 3. The regional will have a recovery day on Friday, April 4, between the second round and finals.

The top two teams and the top all-around competitor (who is not on an advancing team) from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the NCAA Championships. In addition, the top event specialist on each event who is not part of an advancing team or all-around competitor advances to the national championship (in that event only).

Stanford’s 2025 season has been one for the record books, as it wrote its first chapter as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Cardinal enters the regional championships fresh off a victory over No. 6 California, No. 19 NC State, No. 22 UNC, Clemson and Pittsburgh to claim the 2025 ACC Championship title with a season-best team score of 197.775. Members of the Stanford squad earned a part of or sole possession of every apparatus individual title and the all-around competition trophy. The Cardinal’s title-winning performance in Greensboro, N.C. was highlighted by a perfect 10.000 from freshman Ui Soma on bars, a 9.975 from junior Taralyn Nguyen on vault, a 9.950 from junior Anna Roberts on floor and a 9.900 from sophomore Temple Landry on beam to claim each apparatus crown. Roberts also secured a share of the all-around title with a 39.625 all-around score at the conference championship event. The ACC title marked the university’s first team title in its new conference and the program’s first conference trophy since 2008.

The Cardinal's second-round regional championships meet is slated to start at 7 pm MT/6 pm PT in Huntsman Center and will be streamed on ESPNU.
