DALLAS – No. 9 Stanford men’s tennis rolled to its sixth ACC victory of the season, downing host No. 61 SMU, 4-0. Stanford improves to 15-5 this season and 6-3 in the ACC.
The Cardinal rolled to an early lead in doubles with a pair of 6-1 victories. Kyle Kang and Henry von der Schulenburg picked up their first win as a duo at No. 1 doubles, taking out the ITA’s No. 76 pair, while Nico Godsick and Hudson Rivera moved to 3-0 on the season as a tandem on court three.
Stanford’s momentum carried into singles, as Stanford was victorious in all six opening sets. Godsick extended the Stanford lead to 2-0 with an efficient 6-2, 6-1 win while Max Basing made it 3-0 with a 6-3, 6-2 win on court two. The triumphs were the 12th of the season for both players and the ninth in dual play.
Rivera clinched the match on court six in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1, his second clinching point of the season. Stanford improves to 12-1 all-time against the Mustangs, while facing off for the first time as ACC foes.
Stanford concludes its five-match road trip on Sunday, March 30 against Boston College. The first serves are set for 7 a.m. PT.
