Cardinal Wraps Up at Cabo Collegiate

Chantananuwat earns third top 20 finish

LOS CABOS, Mexico — TK Chantananuwat’s even-par on the final day was enough to secure a top 20 finish as the Stanford men’s golf team concluded competition at the Cabo Collegiate on Tuesday afternoon. Stanford concluded the three day tournament at 19-over which was good for seventh in a field of some of the nation’s top teams.

Chantananuwat entered the day outside the top 20 and had a strong outing with three birdies scattered throughout the afternoon. Having grabbed a bogey on his first hole of the afternoon, Chantananuwat secured two birdies in the final four holes of the back nine to enter his final few holes at 1-under. A late bogey on hole four brought him back to even as the freshman earned a top 20 finish, placing tied for 19th at 2-over for the tournament.

Nathan Wang and Jay Leng also grabbed top 30 finishes for the tournament with the two golfers finishing at 1-over and 3-over on the final day, respectively. Wang battled back after a tough start with two birdies along the back nine before finishing his afternoon at 1-over thanks to a birdie on hole 5 to finish 5-over for the tournament in a tie for 27th. Leng also battled back through some early adversity, finishing 3-over for the day after starting 5-over through four holes. Leng grabbed four birdies on the afternoon, finishing with his last on hole two to finish the tournament at 4-over and tied for 22nd.

Ethan Gao had a strong back nine after some early trouble through the first five holes of the afternoon. Gao kicked off a solid string of eight holes with a birdie on hole 12, starting a run that saw him shoot 3-under to enter the front nine at 2-over for the afternoon. Gao eventually finished the round at 5-over to place in a tie for 44th at 8-over for the tournament. Kush Arora finished up his time in Mexico with two birdies on the round, ending the tournament in 78th while independently, Sean-Karl Dobson placed 79th.

Stanford is back in action on The Farm in just under a month, hosting The Goodwin at the Stanford Golf Course from Thursday, March 27 through Saturday, March 29.
