Men’s Basketball Falls at Louisville

Stanford earned the No. 7 seed in next week’s ACC Tournament

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Wrapping up the regular season on the road, Stanford men’s basketball could not overcome a cold shooting game, falling 68-48 to No. 14/13 Louisville at the KFC Yum! Center. The Cardinal ends the regular season at 19-12 overall and 11-9 in the ACC.

Maxime Raynaud led the Cardinal with 17 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and three blocks, good for his nation-leading 23rd double-double of the season. With his 11 rebounds, Raynaud tied Kim Belton ’80 for third place on Stanford’s all-time career rebounds list and he passed Rich Kelley ’75 for second place on Stanford’s single-season list.

Oziyah Sellers and Chisom Okpara scored eight points apiece, while Ryan Agarwal had seven. Jaylen Blakes scored five points with a game-high five assists. The 68 points scored by Louisville (25-6, 18-2 ACC) are its second lowest in ACC play this season, as Duke held the Cardinals to 65 on Dec. 8.

Stanford got out to a slow start offensively, shooting just 20 percent from the floor in the first half. Sellers scored all eight of his points in the first period, but a 14-1 run from the Cardinals gave the home team a 29-11 lead with 5:04 to play in the period. Stanford closed the gap to 15 at the half, 33-18.

Stanford trimmed what was an 18-point deficit to eight points through seven minutes to start the second half, led by 11 points from Raynaud over the first 6:27. Stanford kept the game at 10 points with 4:33 to play, 55-45, after a bucket from Okpara, but Louisville ended the game on a 13-3 run to secure the win.

The Cardinal earned the No. 7 seed in the ACC Tournament as well as a first-round bye. Stanford will take on the winner of the 10-seed and 15-seed in the second round at Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina on Wednesday, March 12 at 4 p.m. PT. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2.
