COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Stanford fencing wrapped up NCAA Western Regionals today, with eight members of the Cardinal finishing in the top three. Sanjay Kasi and Jared Hammerstrom took home first-place finishes to lead the way.
The Cardinal women’s team opened up the day with four top-three finishers, coming in foil and epee.
Arianna Cao (7-2) and Crystal Qian (6-3) took second and third, respectively, in foil. Ellen Wang joined the duo in the top five, finishing fifth with a 4-5 day.
Zhiyin Lin (10-3) and Jeanette Han (9-4) followed it up going second and third in epee, respectively. Sophia Chin finished right behind them, taking fourth after going 7-6.
Lin’s 10 individual bout victories paced the Cardinal women’s team.
Sanjay Kasi led the way on the men’s side, going 9-1 to finish atop the foil standings. Renzo Fukuda went 7-3 to finish third in the weapon.
Jared Hammerstrom topped the men’s saber competition, going 11-4. Donghwan Park went 10-5 on the day to finish third in the weapon. The men’s team wrapped up the day with four top-three finishers.
Next up for Stanford is a trip to Pennsylvania for the NCAA National Championships. The four-day competition starts on Thursday, March 20.
