SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – No. 5 Stanford brought home two wins on its first day of action at the Center of Effort Volleyball Challenge, topping both the host No. 3 Cal Poly and No. 7 Florida State 4-1.

A historic milestone was reached as senior Taylor Wilson and sophomore Ruby Sorra notched their 38th career win as a duo, the most by a pair in Stanford beach volleyball program history. The record-setting victory came in straight sets against Cal Poly’s top pair.

The Cardinal started its two-match day with a bang, upsetting the tournament’s host by a score of 4-1. Sorra and Wilson’s historic victory on court one 21-19, 21-13 captured the match's first point.  Cal Poly answered on court three, where freshman Charlotta Bell and junior Kelly Belardi were edged in two close sets. With the score tied at 1-1, the Cardinal roared back. On court five, sophomore Clara Stowell and junior Daria Gusarova came from behind to win 14-21, 21-17, 15-11, followed by another three-set thriller on court two from freshman Avery Jackson and sophomore Brooke Rockwell (13-21, 21-15, 15-13) to clinch the match. Sophomore Chloe Hoffman and freshman Logan Tusher sealed the deal on court four with a tight 21-15, 21-23, 16-14 victory.

The Cardinal capped off Friday with another 4-1 win, this time over No. 7 Florida State. After dropping court one, Stanford rallied with a series of strong performances. Stowell and Gusarova evened the match on court five with a 21-19, 21-19 win. Belardi and Bell followed suit on court three, cruising to a 21-15, 21-12 result.
