Saum Lands on Buster Posey Award Watch List

Charlie Saum has earned a spot on the midseason watch list for the Buster Posey Award

STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford catcher Charlie Saum has been named to the Buster Posey Award Midseason Watchlist, the Wichita Sports Commission announced.

Saum is one of 56 Division I catchers to earn a spot on the watch list, including one of four from the Atlantic Coast Conference. The award has been presented annually to the nation's most outstanding catcher since 2000; it was previously known as the Johnny Bench Award until renaming it after the famous Florida State and San Francisco Giants catcher, Buster Posey, in 2019.

A native of Thousand Oaks, Calif., Saum has scored 24 runs and driven in 16 while compiling five doubles and four home runs so far this season. He has started 32 of a possible 37 games for the Cardinal behind the plate, while starting as Stanford’s designated hitter in four more.

Stanford has garnered the Buster Posey Award once in program history, with Ryan Garko earning the honor in 2003. Malcolm Moore was a semifinalist for the award a year ago.
