STANFORD, Calif. – No. 15 Stanford fell 9-4 to No. 25 Virginia this afternoon, dropping to 34-10 on the season and 12-8 in ACC play.
For the second-straight game, Virginia took the lead in the first. A two-out double put the Cavaliers ahead 1-0 heading into the home half of the opening frame. An unearned run in the third came across to double the lead at 2-0.
The Cardinal took the lead in the bottom of the third, thanks to a three-run shot from Kyra Chan. Her ninth home run of the season put the Card ahead 3-2, but Virginia quickly answered. The Cavaliers added three in the fourth and two in the sixth to take a 7-3 lead into the bottom of the sixth.
Caelan Koch sent a ball over the right-field fence to cut the lead down to 7-4, but two more Cavalier runs in the seventh made it a 9-4 final.
