Demon Deacons Secure Series with Shutout

Stanford was blanked 10-0 on Sunday in a rubber match with Wake Forest

STANFORD, Calif. – Deciding a three-game ACC series from Sunken Diamond on Sunday, Stanford (21-19, 7-17 ACC) was shut out 10-0 in seven innings as Wake Forest (29-16, 12-12 ACC) secured the series win.

Freshman Parker Warner got the start for Stanford and worked a scoreless first inning, but fellow freshman Austin Steeves was tagged for three runs on one hit and three walks while recording two outs in the second to put Stanford in the early hole.

Steeves, the first of five relievers used by the Cardinal on Sunday, was saddled with the loss and dropped to 0-1 on the season.

Liam Golden made his collegiate debut on the mound for Stanford in the third inning, ultimately allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits over 1 2/3 innings. Junior Toran O’Harran proved to be a bright spot for Stanford on the mound, pitching the final three scoreless frames while allowing one hit and two walks with three strikeouts.

After plating the three in the second inning, Wake Forest added a single run in the third, two in the fourth and four in the fifth to put the run rule into play.

Stanford’s pitching staff issued nine walks in the game and finished the series having walked 31 in 28 innings.

Junior Ethan Hott accounted for two of Stanford’s four hits on the day as the Cardinal was shut out for the second time this season and the second time in the last six games.

The Cardinal will play the final game of an eight-game homestand on Monday when it welcomes Sacramento State to The Farm for a 6:05 p.m. first pitch.
