No. 4 Stanford Wraps Up Time at Best in the West Tournament with Two Big Wins

The No. 4 Cardinal swept No. 19 Washington 5-0 and edged out No. 11 Long Beach State 3-2

LAGUNA BEACH, Calif. – No. 4 Stanford wrapped up its appearance at the Best in the West Tournament on Saturday with a dominant 5-0 sweep of No. 19 Washington and a hard-fought 3-2 victory over No. 11 Long Beach State.

The Cardinal finished the weekend with a 3-1 record, with its only loss coming against No. 7 USC.

Stanford opened the day with its 14th 5-0 sweep of the season, blanking No. 19 Washington. Junior Daria Gusarova and sophomore Clara Stowell secured the first point on court five with a 21-13, 21-14 win. Junior Kelly Belardi and freshman Charlotta Bell followed with a 21-19, 21-12 victory on court three, and sophomore Chloe Hoffman and freshman Logan Tusher clinched the sweep with a 21-12, 21-16 win over Washington’s Karolina Majernikova and Sarah Wilcock on court two.

In the second match of the day, Stanford battled past No. 11 Long Beach State for a 3-2 win, claiming victories on courts two, three, and four. Belardi and Bell struck first again, cruising to a 21-11, 21-13 win on court three. Long Beach State responded with a 21-15, 21-13 decision on court one to even the dual. The Cardinal then sealed the win with a pair of three-set victories. On court two, sophomore Ruby Sorra and senior Taylor Wilson rallied from a first-set loss to win 11-21, 21-11, 15-8, while Hoffman and Tusher held off a late push on court four to win 21-18, 20-22, 15-11.

Up next, Stanford concludes its regular-season road schedule at the Center of Effort Challenge hosted by Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, Calif., April 12–13. The Cardinal will face host No. 5 Cal Poly and No. 6 Florida State on April 12, followed by a rematch with No. 7 USC on April 13. Stanford’s final opponent of the tournament will be determined based on round-robin results.
