Stanford tops Binghamton 9-2

EUGENE, Ore. – The Cardinal opened the 2025 NCAA tournament run with a bang today, topping Binghamton 9-2 at the Eugene Regional. Caelan Koch led the offensive charge, finishing 4-for-4 while Kylie Chung and Zoe Prystajko held the Bearcats to just two unearned runs on three hits.

Stanford struck quickly, scoring in the first inning on an RBI double from Jade Berry. With two outs in the inning, River Mahler singled and stole second. Then when Berry drove a ball in to the firth-center gap, Mahler raced around to score.

The RBI was number 59 of the season for Berry, giving her sole possession of the third-most in a season in program history.

Stanford pounced again in the second, scoring two on another two-out double. This time it was Emily Jones driving a ball off the wall in right to go ahead 3-0.

Binghamton was able to answer in the third, plating a pair of unearned runs to cut the lead to 3-2.

The Card came right back in the third, plating three to push the lead to 6-2. The first run came across on an RBI double from Caelan Koch, then Mylia Perez scampered in from third on a wild pitch, and Kylie Chung brought the third run across on an RBI groundout.

Three more runs score in the fourth to make it a 9-2 Stanford lead, all coming with two outs in the inning.

Stanford held Binghamton to just one hit in the final three frames to close out the win. Kylie Chung picked up the win in the circle, allowing no earned runs to score in five innings of work. Zoe Prystajko came in for the final two frames, holding the Bearcats hitless.

With the win, Stanford moves on to face the winner of this afternoon’s game between Oregon and Weber State. The day two bout will start at 1:00 p.m. PT, and streamed on the ESPN family of networks.

  • Sophomore Jade Berry’s first-inning RBI was her 59th of the season, leading the team and the third-most in a season in program history.
  • Berry’s RBI double gives her a hit in nine of 12 career NCAA Tournament games, leading all active Cardinal players with 9 career RBI in the tournament.
  • Junior Kyra Chan kept pace with Berry, driving in her own 59th RBI of the season in the fourth inning.
  • Fifth-year Caelan Koch hit her 17th double of the season, now tied for the 10th-most in a single season in program history.
  • Koch finished the game 4-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.
  • Senior Kylie Chung picked up her first career postseason start in the circle, earning the win.
  • Chung has now recorded 9.1 straight innings without allowing an earned run.
  • Stanford finished the game with five of team’s nine runs scored with two outs.
