EUGENE, Ore. – Stanford is moving on to tomorrow’s Eugene Regional Final, after dispatching the hosting Oregon Ducks 14-1 in six innings this afternoon. The Cardinal broke program records for postseason homers and runs scored, while the trio of Alyssa Houston, Zoe Prystajko and Kylie Chung in the circle held Oregon to just one run on three hits.

For the second-straight day, Stanford opened up the scoring in the first inning. After Taryn Kern led off with a single and advanced to third on an error, Emily Jones singled to bring her home for an early 1-0 lead.

Kylie Chung got the start in the circle, but gave way to Alyssa Houston with two on and two out in the opening frame. Houston immediately earned a strikeout to escape the inning. The sophomore would finish the day with the win, tossing 4.1 innings and allowing just one run on two hits.

After the unearned run came across in the first, Joie Economides left no doubt about the second run of the game the very next inning. The freshman crushed a ball well beyond the left-field fence for a solo home run and a 2-0 lead.

Another Cardinal home run made it 3-0 in the fourth. This time it was Allie Clements, as the senior hit a solo shot with two out in the inning to extend the lead.

The Ducks broke up the shutout in the fourth, scoring a run to cut the lead to 3-1. The Stanford bats answered right back in the top of the fifth, when River Mahler and Jade Berry blasted back-to-back solo home runs to make it a 5-1 lead.

Berry’s home run gave her 60 RBI on the season, making her just the third in program history to do so and the first since 2012.

Then in the sixth inning, the wheels came off. The Cardinal posted nine runs on five hits to take a commanding 14-1 lead. Clements drove in a run with an RBI single, Jones singled in two more to follow and Taryn Kern scored on an error to go ahead 9-1.

Economides and Caelan Koch each were hit by pitches with the bases loaded to make it 11-1, still with just one out in the frame. Then Kylie Chung brought another in with a single, before Clements picked up her second RBI of the inning with a fielder’s choice.

Kern brought the final run in on a sacrifice fly to make it 14-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth.

Zoe Prystajko took over in the circle, allowing a leadoff single before retiring the next three batters for a scoreless final frame.

With the win, Stanford moves on to the regional final tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. PT. The Card will take on whoever emerges from this evening’s consolation bracket – one of Binghamton, Weber State or Oregon.

Stanford will need just one win in two tries tomorrow, with the consolation winner needing to win twice in the double-elimination tournament. The second game, if necessary, would take place approximately 35 minutes after the end of the first game. Both games will be streamed on the ESPN family of networks.
