STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford men’s tennis continued its unblemished season at home at Arrillaga Tennis Center-Taube Pavilion, defeating No. 25 Pepperdine, 4-0. The win helps the fourth-seeded and No. 5 Cardinal to 24-5 on the season, including an 11-0 record at home.
The Cardinal is advancing to the NCAA Super Regionals for the fourth consecutive season, and for the first time since the NCAA round of 16 moved to campus sites.
The ACC Champions finished its second consecutive shutout to open NCAA Tournament play with a pair of wins in doubles. Samir Banerjee and Alex Razeghi opened the Cardinal account with a 6-3 win on court three, while Kyle Kang and Henry von der Schulenburg were close behind on court two with a 6-3 win of their own.
Stanford won four of six opening sets in singles to take full control of the match. After a 6-0 victory in his opening set, von der Schulenburg gave the Cardinal a 2-0 lead in the match with a 6-3 second set win on court four. The win was his team-leading 20th of the season, and he improved to 16-2 on the year in dual play.
Alex Razeghi made it 3-0 with a three-set victory on court six. After dropping the first set, Razeghi stormed back with 11 consecutive games, eventually winning 2-6, 6-0, 6-1. He improves to 17-4 on the season, all in dual play, and he continues to lead the Cardinal in dual wins.
The Cardinal clinched the match on court five as Nico Godsick picked up his 15th win of the season, 7-5, 6-2. The sophomore improved to 12-2 in dual play with the win, while the match was his fifth clinching point of the season.
Stanford improved to 31-9 all-time against the Waves.
Fourth-seeded Stanford will host 13th-seeded South Carolina in the NCAA Super Regionals on May 9 at Arrillaga Tennis Center-Taube Pavilion. The first serves are set for noon.
