2024 Season in Review

Stanford made 43rd NCAA Tournament appearance

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford closed out the 2024 season with a 28-5 overall record and tied for second in its first year in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) with a 17-3 mark. The Cardinal made its 43rd NCAA postseason appearance in 44 seasons, advancing to its 18th regional final since the tournament expanded to 64 teams in 1998.

Stanford produced three AVCA All-Americans with setter Kami Miner earning her third straight first-team selection. Outside hitter Elia Rubin joined Miner on the first team with her second career honor. Senior middle blocker Sami Francis secured her first career accolade, landing on the second team. The trio were also tabbed VolleyballMag,com All-Americans along with libero Elena Oglivie

The selections brought Stanford's total AVCA All-America award count to 118 honors spread over 48 players. The Cardinal has produced multiple All-Americans in the same season in 19 of its past 20 campaigns.

Miner was named the ACC Setter of the Year - the third conference setter of the year honor of her career. The senior was also voted the AVCA Pacific Region Player of the Year and selected a semifinalist for AVCA Player of the Year.

Kevin Hambly, The Montag Family Director of Women's Volleyball, is now 199-42 (.826) in eight seasons on The Farm, mentoring 14 AVCA All-Americans to 29 awards and seven College Sports Communicators Academic All-Americans.

In eight seasons under Hambly, Stanford is 100-12 at Maples Pavilion, including 20-2 in the NCAA Tournament. In 2024, the Cardinal went 14-0 at home, dropping just three sets. It was its first undefeated season on The Farm since 2018.

Statistically speaking, Stanford was third nationally with a .314 team hitting percentage, ranked fifth in assists per set (13.55) and sixth in kills per set (14.40). Individually, Miner was ninth in the country with 11.21 assists per set, while Francis was sixth in blocks per set (1.53) and 20th nationally with a .401 attack percentage.

Among ACC opponents, Rubin ranked third in the conference with 4.54 points per set and fourth with 3.93 kills per set. Opposite Jordyn Harvey was seventh in the ACC with 0.40 aces per set, while Oglivie was eighth with 3.91 digs per set.

Seven Cardinal were recognized with all-conference honors by the ACC. Francis, Miner and Rubin were named to the first team, while Harvey, Oglivie and redshirt freshman Ipar Kurt earned second team honors. Lizzy Andrew was selected to the All-ACC Freshman Team. Stanford now has 171 all-conference selections all-time and 48 all-freshman picks.

Miner recorded her 5,000th career assist on Senior Day, tying her career-high of 60, in a four-set win over No. 3 Louisville (Nov. 30). She became the fifth player in school history to reach the milestone. In the rally-scoring era to 25, Miner is second with 5,189 career assists and holds the program record with 11.45 career assists per set. She also tallied her 1,000th career dig at North Carolina (Nov. 24), becoming the 20th player in program history to accomplish that feat.

Additional milestones were reached by Rubin, who became the 23rd player in program history to register 1,000 career kills, accomplishing that feat at No. 12 SMU (Oct. 16). Oglivie registered her 2,000th career dig at No. 19 Georgia Tech (Nov. 27), becoming the fourth player in school history to reach that milestone. The fifth year finished third all-time in program history with 2,075 career digs.

Rubin was tabbed the Co-ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, becoming the sixth Cardinal to earn conference scholar-athlete of the year honors in the past seven seasons and the eighth overall. Rubin and Oglivie were College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District selections with Rubin going on to earn CSC Academic All-America second team honors. Stanford also produced 11 All-ACC Academic Team picks.

Stanford has won more NCAA titles (9), more NCAA Tournament matches (141), made more Final Four appearances (23) and been in the national championship match (17) more times than any other program in the nation. The Cardinal has qualified for 43 of the 44 NCAA Tournaments all-time.
