Two Academic All-Americans

Banerjee, Basing earned CSC second team honors

STANFORD, Calif. – After a tremendous season that included semifinal appearances in both the NCAA Championships and at the  ITA National Team Indoor Championships, as well as an ACC Championship, Samir Banerjee and Max Basing of the men’s tennis team have been named second team Academic All-Americans from College Sports Communicators.

Banerjee and Basing become the seventh and eighth Academic All-Americans in program history, with the ninth and 10th total selections, joining K.J. Hippensteel (2001, 2002), David Martin (2003), Axel Geller (2021, 2022), Arthur Fery (2023, Nishesh Basavareddy (2024) and Neel Rajesh (2024). This represents the fifth consecutive year Stanford has had an Academic All-American in men’s tennis while no other program boasts a streak of more than three years nationally.

An ITA All-American last week, Banerjee enjoyed a breakout campaign at No. 1 singles for Stanford. The Basking Ridge, New Jersey native was an All-ACC first team selection and twice earned weekly honors from the ACC, as the Player of the Week on Feb. 18 and as part of the Doubles Team of the Week on Feb. 4. Additionally, Banerjee was a CSC Academic All-District selection and picked to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships All-Tournament Team (No. 2 doubles).

Banerjee finished the season ranked No. 11 in the country in singles and No. 40 in doubles, alongside Alex Razeghi. His season-high marks were No. 32 in doubles and No. 7 in singles, which is a career-best. Banerjee went 13-8 in singles, including 10 ranked wins and an 8-3 record against top-25 players, and 19-11 in doubles. He qualified for both the NCAA singles and doubles championships in November.

The ACC Championships Most Valuable Player, Basing earned his fourth-career all-conference nod with a selection to the All-ACC third team in April. Basing  finished the season at 20-7 in singles, including a 17-4 dual record and eight wins over ranked singles opponents. Basing ended the year ranked No. 85 in singles and was ranked as high as No. 50 in doubles earlier in the season.

Basing ended a standout career as one of the most clutch players in college tennis. The Oxshott, United Kingdom native clinched all three of Stanford’s matches at the ACC Championships, as well as the Cardinal’s NCAA quarterfinal bout with Mississippi State, where he saved six match points before winning in three sets. A standout career saw Basing finish 20th in program history with 58 career dual wins in singles.

Stanford posted a 26-6 overall record in 2024-25, its most wins since 2003. Stanford reached its fourth consecutive NCAA Super Regional, first NCAA quarterfinal since 2012 and first semifinal since 2003. Banerjee helped guide Stanford to the semifinals of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, the program’s first semifinals appearance since 2018.
