Hong Wins Second National Title

Hong won by a record-setting margin as Stanford claimed five total event titles.

NEW ORLEANS - Asher Hong turned in a historic performance at the 2025 Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships, collecting his second career national all-around title by a record margin with a two-day score of 170.020.

Hong's 7.465-point advantage is the largest margin of victory at the U.S. Gymnastics Championships for either men's or women's competition. With Hong's victory, a Stanford gymnast has won each of the last U.S. all-around titles (Hong: 2023, 2025; Malone: 2021-22, 2024).

In addition to the all-around crown, the Stanford senior claimed individual national titles on floor exercise (30.016), still rings (29.286), and vault (30.318), along with a runner-up finish on parallel bars. Hong's vault performance locked him into a World Team spot by winning the event title and meeting the minimum difficulty requirement.

Brody Malone finished top five in each of his four events, earning the parallel bars crown with a 28.150. The three-time U.S. all-around champion finished runner-up on still rings (28.566), third on pommel horse (28.202), and fifth on high bar (27.501).

Stanford graduate Taylor Burkhart had a strong showing on high bar, pacing the field with a 28.960 to give Stanford five of the six event titles. The Arvada, Colo. native also finished fourth on parallel bars with a 27.900.

Alum Colt Walker finished fourth in the all-around race with a 161.560, finishing top ten on high bar (27.150), parallel bars (27.410), and vault (27.800). Incoming freshman Junnosuke Iwai impressed with a sixth-place finish in the all-around (160.613), highlighted by a third-place effort on floor with a 28.863 score.

Following the U.S. Championships, Hong and Malone were both named to Team USA's World Championships roster, while Taylor Burkhart was selected as the non-traveling replacement athlete.

Six Cardinal earned National Team selections, as Hong, Malone, and Burkhart join Iwai, Walker, and Riley Loos in representing Team USA through the 2025 Winter Cup.

The 2025 FIG World Gymnastics Championships are slated for October 19-25 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
