No. 1 Stanford will face No. 12 Wake Forest in match play at the Stephens Cup

LAKE BLUFF, Ill. — Top-ranked Stanford women’s golf is in relatively unfamiliar territory heading into the match play portion of the Jackson T. Stephens Cup. After winning every stroke play event during the 2024-25 season, Stanford seemed destined to keep that streak alive after finishing tied atop the leaderboard following round two. Shoreacres proved to be a challenge again, and Stanford finished the day 1-over as a team, landing in second place behind No. 12 Wake Forest.

As she was on Monday, Megha Ganne proved to be the steadiest Stanford golfer, but even she had some troubles. She was 1-under on the front nine but then had to battle through three straight bogeys on 11-13. Ganne dug deep and found success late in the round when Stanford needed her most, with three birdies on her final four holes to close out with a 1-under 69, posting three 69s in stroke play. Ganne was one of two golfers in the field to post three rounds under par, joining individual champion Macy Pate of Wake Forest. Ganne finished in outright fourth at 3-under, five strokes behind Pate.

Good finishes were a theme of both days for many Stanford golfers, Andrea Revuelta included. The sophomore from Spain only recorded one birdie during her final round until 15, when she was able to close with birdies on 15 and 18 to salvage an even-par 70 on Tuesday. That put Revuelta even at par for three rounds, good enough for outright seventh. It is her sixth career top-10 finish, closing her day in the same spot on the leaderboard where she sat after 36 holes on Monday.

Perhaps no golfer exemplified finishing strong better than Kelly Xu. She began the Stephens Cup with a 73 and was five strokes over par after 27 holes of golf, halfway through stroke play. After a great back nine to shoot a 70 yesterday, she had a similar finish on Tuesday. Xu was 3-over through 13 but then rattled off three consecutive birdies to pull back to even on the day. The senior from Claremont moved up three spots to finish in a tie for ninth, securing her 11th career top-10 placing.

By virtue of being a top-two seed in stroke play, Stanford has earned the right to play for the Stephens Cup title against Wake Forest in match play on Wednesday. This marks the third consecutive year Stanford and Wake Forest will meet in match play, with Wake Forest winning the previous two meetings: the 2025 ACC Women’s Golf semifinals and the 2023 East Lake Cup finals. Tee times begin at 10:20 a.m. PT, and Golf Channel will have coverage from 1-4 p.m. PT.
