LOS ANGELES – The No. 4 Cardinal wrapped up the Overnght MPSF Invitational this afternoon, falling to No. 2 USC in overtime to move to 7-2 on the season.
The Cardinal fell behind in the first period, trailing 4-1 heading into the first break. The Card chipped away at the lead in the second and third, scoring four goals in each period to enter the fourth tied up at 9-9.
Both sides added a pair of goals in the fourth, sending the game to overtime. USC outscored the Card 3-1 in overtime for a 14-12 final score.
Goalkeeper West Temkin was strong in the cage, making a season-best 16 saves and allowing just 13 goals. Temkin finishes the weekend with 41 total saves over four games, after stopping 25 shots coming into today.
Stanford finishes fourth in the Overnght MPSF Invitational, going 2-2 on the weekend. Next up for the Card is a weekend at home, playing at San Jose State on Friday before hosting Pepperdine on Sunday at Avery Aquatics Center.
