Card Tops Virginia to Open ACC Play

Andrew, Rubin led the team with 14 kills apiece

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Elia Rubin and Lizzy Andrew combined for 28 kills to lead No. 3 Stanford in a 25-15, 25-14, 22-25, 25-17 win at Virginia, Saturday, in the ACC opener at John Paul Jones Arena.

Stanford (10-2, 1-0 ACC) hit .235 as a team and racked up a season-high 65 digs. Six different Cardinal players recorded an ace. Virginia (7-4, 0-1 ACC) was held to .063 hitting – the second lowest by a Stanford opponent this season.

Andrew and Rubin each recorded 14 kills to lead the Cardinal. Andrew hit .600 and tallied three blocks and two digs, while Rubin posted a .387 attack percentage and had six digs, two assists, a block and an ace.

Setter Logan Parks controlled the offense with 33 assists and matched her career-high with 15 digs for her second double-double of the season. The freshman also registered three kills, a block and an ace.

Freshman libero Spencer Etzler also notched 15 digs and had a career-best seven assists and an ace. Middle blocker Erika Sayer added seven kills on .417 hitting, three digs and two blocks.

Redshirt sophomore Ipar Kurt started at outside hitter, totaling nine kills, four digs, an ace and a block in three sets played. Redshirt sophomore Julia Blyashov replaced Kurt in the third and finished with four kills, a dig and a block.

Defensive specialist Anna Pringle had five digs and an assist, while redshirt sophomore Koko Kirsch chipped in with an ace and a dig.

Virginia was led by Reagan Ennist who had a team-high 11 kills. Middle blocker Kate Dean hit .538 with seven kills on 13 errorless swings and seven blocks. Stanford improved to 3-0 all-time against the Cavaliers.

Stanford is back in action on Sunday at Virginia Tech. First serve is scheduled for 9 a.m. PT on ACCNX.
