FORT WORTH, Texas — After a daunting 36 holes of competition, Stanford men’s golf sits within striking distance of a top-five placement after two rounds at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational presented by Charles Schwab. The Cardinal, which followed up a 2-over round one performance with a 10-over card to end the afternoon, sits in tenth among one the best fields in the nation.
Leading the Cardinal, TK Chantananuwat and Jay Leng sit tied atop the Stanford leaderboard and inside the top-15 overall entering Tuesday’s third round at 1-over. Chantananuwat, who overcame a rough start to round one that saw him go 2-over through three holes, punched back with a 1-under card on the front nine to enter the second round at even-par, totalling five birdies in the process. However, the front nine was unkind to Chantananuwat in round two as he mustered a 3-over, 38 before hitting the turn and finishing his afternoon at 1-over.
Leng, on the other hand, shot 1-over, 71 through the first round, nabbing three birdies through the morning session. The sophomore followed that up with an even-par performance in round two highlighted by two birdies in his final three holes of the afternoon to nab himself a spot inside the top-15 entering the final round.
Nathan Wang also shot strong in the morning session for the Cardinal, earning a 1-under, 69 for his efforts to begin the day. Wang, who rattled off four birdies in the first round, kept Stanford in the hunt as the Cardinal took a 2-over spot into the afternoon. Wang, however, was unable to push back following a tough front nine, ending round two at 4-over and sitting just outside the top-25 in a tied for 26th at 3-over through two rounds.
Elsewhere at Colonial, Edan Cui had a strong start to the day, earning three birdies along the front nine before the back stretch forced him into a 2-over, 72 card for the first round. Much like the rest of the field, Cui battled through a grueling second round that ended with a 5-over card for the freshman as he sits inside the top-50 at 7-over through two rounds.
Dean Greyserman also hit the links for the Cardinal, turning in a 4-over, 74 after the first round of action. Greyserman also had success in the second round with three birdies on his card, but once again the front nine had other plans as the senior went 7-over during the afternoon session to enter the final day at 11-over for the tournament.
Stanford concludes its time at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational presented by Charles Schwab tomorrow with an 8 a.m. CT/ 6 a.m. PT shotgun start from Colonial Country Club.
