Card Storms Past Hurricanes

Rubin led the team with 17 kills

STANFORD, Calif. – In a back-and-forth battle, No. 5 Stanford took down No. 14 Miami, 25-23, 25-27, 26-24, 25-16, Sunday, at Maples Pavilion.

Stanford (16-3, 7-1 ACC) hit .357 as a team, while Miami (15-4, 5-3 ACC) posted a .225 clip. The Cardinal racked up 14.5 blocks to go with six aces and 45 digs.

Senior Elia Rubin led the team with 17 kills on .441 hitting, nine digs, an ace and a block. Redshirt sophomore Julia Blyashov added 15 kills on a .342 attack percentage, three blocks and two digs.

For the match, there were 29 tie scores and 13 lead changes, including 13 and six, respectively, in the third set alone.

Freshman Logan Parks controlled the offense, dishing out 43 assists to go with six digs, three blocks and two kills. Libero Spencer Etzler collected a team-high 17 digs to go with three assists and an ace.

Opposite Jordyn Harvey hit .333 with 11 kills, six digs, eight blocks and an ace. Middle blocker Lizzy Andrew finished with seven kills on 14 errorless swings to go with four blocks and two assists.

Freshman Erika Sayer led all players with a career-high 10 blocks. Defensive specialist Koko Kirsch put down a career-high three aces to go with a dig and an assist, while senior Anna Pringle chipped in with three digs and an assist.

Miami was led by outside hitter Flormarie Heredia Colon’s match-high 20 kills, 10 digs and two aces. Middle blocker Dalia Wilson added 10 kills on .474 hitting and five blocks.

Stanford wore pink jerseys in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Fans submitted stories about how they or a loved one have been affected by the disease and the winners chose the names that were printed on the back of the Cardinal jerseys.
