BERKELEY, Calif. — The double dual between No. 8 Stanford men’s swimming, No. 4 California, and No. 3 Arizona State went across the Bay to Berkeley for the second day. Stanford maintained its advantage over the Golden Bears and held on for the win, taking down California 205-134 while falling to the Sun Devils 204-134.
Stanford did not score a heat win on Saturday after looking strong at home on Friday, but built enough of a cushion over California to score a top-five victory. Daniel Li finished second in the 200 breast with a time of 1:53.50, a new personal-best by nearly two seconds. Stanford scored a second-place finish in the 800 free relay to begin the day with a time of 6:18.49, with yesterday’s star, Ethan Ekk, swimming first.
Ethan Harrington led the way for the Cardinal in 50 free with a time of 19.34, setting a personal best (his previous best came at the 2025 ACC Championships). Staying in freestyle but moving to 500, Liam Custer was best for the Cardinal with a time of 4:18.84, good for third.
Rafael Gu finished third for Stanford in the 100 fly, finishing in 46.22, and another third place finish was earned by Gibson Holmes in the 200 IM with a time of 1:45.37.
The victory over the Golden Bears is Stanford’s first against California since Feb. 24, 2024 at the end of the regular season.
Stanford heads back to California on Friday, Nov. 7 for the Triple Distance Meet, hosted by the Golden Bears. Competition begins at 1 p.m. Stanford will then head to Texas in mid-November for the Texas Diving Invite and the SMU Invite, running from Nov. 13-22.
