STANFORD, Calif. – The No. 4 Cardinal fell to No. 3 USC this afternoon, dropping the MPSF contest at Avery Aquatics Center 14-10. Alex Gheorghe led the way for Stanford with five goals, as the Card moved to 8-3 on the season and 0-1 in MPSF play.
The Cardinal fell behind early, trailing 3-0 after the first period and 6-2 at the half.
Stanford’s offense found its groove in the third, scoring four times but still heading into the fourth period trailing 10-6.
Three of Gheorghe’s goals came in the fourth, but the Card was unable to complete the comeback bid. Gheorghe’s scoring outburst make back-to-back games with four or more goals, after scoring four in the win over Pepperdine last weekend.
The Card is at home again tomorrow, hosting No. 1 UCLA at 1:00 p.m. PT. Tickets for the MPSF bout are available at Tickets.GoStanford.com, and the game will be streamed on Overnght.
