EAST HAMPTON, N.Y. — A furious second round rally was halted short of its completion due to darkness as the Stanford men’s golf team competed in the first and second round of the Hamptons Intercollegiate, hosted by Loyola (Md.) on Monday afternoon.
The Cardinal, which currently sits in fourth place at 2-over through 15-18 holes in the second round, is within striking distance of its first tournament win of the season while Dean Greyserman sits tied atop the leaderboard with 18 holes to play.
The story of the day was the rise of Dean Greyserman in the second round as the senior polished a 1-under card through the first round with a 4-under card through 15 holes in the second round before play was halted. Aiding Greyserman’s run was a string of five birdies across eight holes spanning from the 13th hole and working back toward the front nine.
Leading the team through the first round at 1-under by virtue of an eagle on hole 15, Greyserman worked the back-nine once more to his advantage in the second round, hitting the turn at four-under as the senior will resume play from the 7th hole tomorrow morning tied for the tournament lead.
Elsewhere, Stanford’s second round comeback saw three Cardinal remain unfinished through the round at even-par or just over par. Nathan Wang, who sits tied for 25th through 16 holes in the second round, rattled off a 2-under card along the back nine to put himself in position for a comeback after a 3-over, 75 card in the first round.
Shooting even-par through the first round, Jay Leng took advantage of a favorable back-nine, earning four birdies from holes 13-17 to hit the turn at 2-under before ending the evening 1-over through 15 holes in the second round. Leng resumes play in a tie for 14th overall tomorrow morning from hole 7.
Having struggled along the front nine in round one, TK Chantananuwat turned things around in the second round, aided by three-consecutive birdies just before turning for the front-nine. Sitting at 4-over through 32 holes of golf, Chantananuwat is still within striking distance of another top-20 placement to start the season as he currently sits tied for 31st.
Edan Cui was the lone finisher for the Cardinal in round two, turning in a 7-over, 79 for the round to finish his day at 9-over for the tournament. Cui grabbed three birdies in round two as he sits in a tie for 45th overall.
Stanford resumes play from its remaining holes at 8:35 a.m. ET/5:35 a.m. PT before completing the third round of action immediately after.
