Monumental Finish at Maidstone

Dean Greyserman and Jay Leng earn first collegiate top-10 finishes in successful trip to Long Island

EAST HAMPTON, N.Y. — A favorable back-nine resulted in a career-outing for Dean Greyserman and Jay Leng as the Cardinal duo earned their first collegiate top-10 finishes following the finale of the Hamptons Intercollegiate on Tuesday afternoon. As a team, Stanford earned its highest finish of the season placing fourth while beating out Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) opposition in No. 15 Florida State at 5-over for the tournament.

Greyserman, who entered the final day in contention for the individual tournament crown following a season-best 3-under, 69 card in round two, shot even-par through the back nine thanks to consecutive birdies on holes 16 and 17. Though the senior got into a bind along the unforgiving front nine, Greyserman pulled out his 10th birdie of the tournament to finish the round at 2-over while ending the tournament at 2-under par and tied for 6th overall.

Leng, on the other hand, surged into the top-10 through the first nine holes of day, jumping out to a 3-under, 34 along the back nine. Much like the rest of the field, Leng got tripped up along the front nine but held strong in the final stretch, ending the afternoon at 1-under which slotted him in a tie for ninth overall at 1-under for the tournament.

Nathan Wang led the Cardinal in the third round, finishing his time on the East Coast with a 2-under, 70 card. Wang, who had trouble on the first day of competition at Maidstone, had the best outing along the front nine for the Cardinal after hitting the turn at 1-under. Wang, who had amassed six birdies through two rounds, earned five in the third round including three along the front nine to end the tournament at 4-over and tied for 24th.

Placing tied for 29th overall for the Cardinal, TK Chantananuwat was the reserve score for Stanford on Tuesday as he ended the afternoon at 2-over. Hitting trouble immediately off the first tee on hole 10, Chantnanuwat registered four birdies along the back nine to hit the final nine holes at even-par. The sophomore continued a dogged fight through the front nine that caused every team trouble this week, earning a final birdie on hole two, ending his time on Long Island at 4-over.

Shooting up through the ranks, Edan Cui burst through the opening nine holes of Tuesday’s final round, grabbing four birdies on the back nine to hit the turn at 2-under. Keeping pace halfway through the front nine, Cui could not escape unscathed as he ultimately finished the afternoon at 1-over, bringing his three round accumulation to 10-over, slotting him tied for 40th overall.

Stanford is back in action in just over two weeks, closing out the fall slate with a return trip to The Peach State and the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate from October 24-26.
