OREM, Utah - No. 14 Stanford opened its 2025-26 campaign Saturday, falling at Utah Valley, 19-12, in the UCCU Center.
Missing several starters from its lineup, including Cardinal All-Americans Daniel Cardenas and Hunter Garvin, Stanford (0-1) won four of 10 bouts against the Wolverines (1-0).
Returning All-American Tyler Knox opened the season with an 8-4 decision over Geronimo Rivera at 133 pounds. The redshirt sophomore tallied a takedown, an escape and two reversals in the win.
Redshirt freshman EJ Parco won a high-scoring affair at 157 pounds, defeating Mark Takara, 19-16. Trailing 13-5 after the first, Parco clawed back with three takedowns, four near fall points and an escape in the final two periods.
Redshirt freshman Collin Guffey picked up a 2-0 decision over Tanner Lofthouse at 174 pounds. Guffey earned an escape and the riding time point in the victory.
In his Cardinal debut, true freshman Angelo Posada recorded a 5-4 decision over Kael Bennie at 197 pounds. Tied 3-3 going into the final period, Posada chose down to start the third. He registered the go-ahead reversal and held off Bennie to seal the win.
Stanford remains on the road next week, traveling to No. 5 Oklahoma State on Friday.
