Men’s Basketball Moves to 3-0, Defeats Montana State 77-68

Stanford has defeated a Big Sky opponent in each of its first three contests this season

STANFORD, Calif. – Continuing its five-game homestand to begin the season, Stanford men’s basketball rallied in the second half to defeat Montana State, 77-68, at Maples Pavilion. Stanford improves to 3-0 on the season with the result.

Ebuka Okorie led the Cardinal scoring with 21 points while adding three assists and three steals. He is the first Stanford freshman to record three-straight 20-point games since Tyrell Terry from Nov. 21-26, 2019.

Benny Gealer scored a season-high 16 points, including four 3-pointers, while Chisom Okpara added 15 with four rebounds and three assists. AJ Rohosy was in double figures for the second-straight game, ending with a season-high 13 points with seven rebounds.

Stanford forced 16 Montana State (1-3) turnovers, including nine in the first half, as the Cardinal led 36-31 at the break. Gealer scored Stanford’s first eight points of the night, and the Cardinal led by as many as 10 points late in the period, 36-26, after Gealer connected on his third triple of the opening frame.

Montana State took the lead at the 12:55 mark in the second half and held a six-point lead with 8:20 to play. Stanford responded with an 8-0 run to take the lead, while the Cardinal outscored the Bobcats 22-4 over a stretch of 7:36 to secure the victory.

Stanford returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 18 against Louisiana. The 7 p.m. tip will air on ACC Network Extra.
