AUSTIN, Texas — Sophomore Misha Andriyuk secured a platform diving title at the Texas Diving Invitational on Saturday afternoon in Austin. A trio of Stanford divers competed across three days at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in their final competition of the fall.
Showing some of the best in the country why he is one of the best platform divers in the NCAA, Andriyuk had no trouble securing the win in platform diving on Saturday. His overall score of 460.25 is the best in his collegiate career, highlighted by a reverse 3 ½ somersault tuck on his fifth dive that scored 91.80. The defending NCAA Zone E platform diving champion won by a margin of over 30 points, outscoring Emilio Trevino of Texas A&M, and more than 110 points ahead of teammate Gunnar Grubbs.
Andriyuk also made the finals in 1-meter diving after finishing sixth in the prelims with a score of 337.60. He finished 11th overall after his score dipped to 319.35.
Grubbs qualified for the finals in both 1-meter and 3-meter diving, with his best performance coming in the 1-meter. His prelim score of 346.80 was good enough for fourth, and he moved up one position in the finals, securing third with a score of 358.20, easily setting a career best. After finishing 11th in the prelims of 3-meter diving, Grubbs moved up to fifth in the finals with a mark of 364.80.
Grant Schneider competed in all three events as well. The freshman from Dana Point, Calif. earned his best finish in 3-meter diving, with a score of 293.65, finishing in 19th overall with a new career-best score. He also scored 246.50 in 1-meter and 265.10 on the platform.
The swimmers will head to Texas next week for the SMU Invite, taking place on Nov. 19-22 in Dallas.
