RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Daniel Cardenas and Abraham Wojcikiewicz registered falls as No. 23 Stanford defeated California Baptist, 29-12, Saturday, at Van Dyne Gym.
Stanford (1-2) notched its first win of the season, winning six of the 10 bouts against the Lancers (0-1). All six Cardinal wins came by bonus points.
Cardenas, ranked No. 6 at 157 pounds, secured his first win of the season with a fall over Drayden Morton in 2:09 to open the dual. Wojcikiewicz also recorded a first-period fall, pinning Adonis Bonar in 2:36 at 184 pounds.
Seventh-ranked Hunter Garvin tallied an 11-3 major decision over Gabe Schumm at 165 pounds for his first win of the season.
True freshman Edwin Sierra turned in his first collegiate win, majoring Cooper Shore, 10-2, at 125 pounds. Redshirt freshman Jack Consiglio also notched his first win of the season, rallying from down 6-1 to post a 20-7 major decision against Jesse Vasquez at 141 pounds.
No. 13 Aden Valencia, the reigning ACC Wrestler of the Week, closed out the dual with a dominating 21-2 technical fall in 4:12 over Paul Kelly at 149 pounds. The redshirt freshman improves to 2-1 on the year.
Stanford is back in action on Nov. 23 at the Roadrunner Open in Bakersfield.
