Stanford Falls to SMU

Cardinal now 14-2 in ACC play

STANFORD, Calif. – No. 10 SMU hit .382 and recorded 11.0 blocks en route to a 25-22, 21-25, 25-23, 25-12 win over No. 5 Stanford, Sunday, at Maples Pavilion.

Stanford (23-4, 14-2 ACC) was held to .191 hitting for the match, finishing with 51 kills, 52 digs, six aces and 3.0 blocks. SMU (21-5, 13-3 ACC) committed just two hitting errors in the final two sets.

Middle blocker Lizzy Andrew led Stanford with 11 kills on .529 hitting and a block. Senior Elia Rubin also had 11 kills to go with eight digs, two aces and two blocks.

Freshman Logan Parks started the match at setter, totaling 13 assists, a dig, a block and a kill in two sets. Parks had to leave the match in the second and was replaced by Taylor Yu. The sophomore tallied 29 assists and six digs.

Opposite Jordyn Harvey turned in nine kills, seven digs and matched her season-high with four aces. Middle blocker Erika Sayer chipped in with eight kills and a block, while outside hitter Julia Blyashov had eight kills and a career-best 13 digs.

Libero Spencer Etzler collected a match-high 14 digs, while defensive specialist Anna Pringle had three digs and an assist in the final two sets. Redshirt sophomore Ipar Kurt replaced Blyashov in the fourth and notched three kills.

SMU was led by opposite Malaya Jones who registered 24 kills on .426 hitting, nine digs, three blocks and an ace. Stanford is now 1-1 all-time against the Mustangs.

Stanford closes out a five-match homestand on Wednesday against California. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. on ACCNX.
