Stanford Secures Season Sweep of Cal

Cardinal improves to 16-2 in the ACC

BERKELEY, Calif. – Behind a season-high 14 aces, No. 5 Stanford swept Cal for the second time this week, 25-18, 25-14, 25-17, Sunday, at Haas Pavilion.

Stanford (25-4, 16-2 ACC) had six different players register multiple aces in the match, including three apiece from outside hitter Julia Bkyashov and setter Logan Tusher. The Cardinal hit .289 as a team, while holding Cal (7-21, 4-14 ACC) to a .133 clip.

Blyashov led the team with nine kills, six digs and a block. Senior Elia Rubin added eight kills on .333 hitting, nine digs, two blocks and two aces.

Tusher earned her first collegiate start, totaling 25 assists and career-highs in aces (3), digs (5) and blocks (2). Libero Spencer Etzler collected a match-high 11 digs, two aces and an assist.

Middle blocker Erika Sayer tallied four kills on .500 hitting and a match-best six blocks. Middle blocker Lizzy Andrew chipped in with three kills and four blocks. Opposite Jordyn Harvey added six kills, four digs, five blocks, two aces and two assists.

Serving specialist Koko Kirsch also notched two aces for the Cardinal. Sophomore Sidney Duncan subbed in late in the third set and had a career-high two kills on two swings, including match point.

Stanford improved to 88-12 all-time against the Golden Bears.

Up next, Stanford welcomes Georgia Tech to The Farm on Wednesday for Senior Day. The Cardinal and Yellow Jackets are set to meet at 3 p.m. on ACCNX. Stanford will celebrate its two seniors, Rubin and Anna Pringle, during a postmatch ceremony.
