SAN JOSE, Calif. – Stanford men’s basketball remained unbeaten away from home this season as it won on the road at San Jose State, 86-82, at Provident Credit Union Event Center. Stanford improves to 8-2 on the season for the second consecutive year under Kyle Smith, the Anne and Tony Joseph Director of Men’s Basketball.
AJ Rohosy and Chisom Okpara scored 20 points apiece, with Rohosy setting a new Division I and season-high to go with eight rebounds while Okpara added matched a career-best with five assists. Rohosy finished 8-for-9 from the floor, while Okpara was nearly as efficient at 5-for-6, and 3-for-3 from 3-point range.
Jeremy Dent-Smith matched his season-high with 16 points, including four made 3-pointers and four assists, while Ryan Agarwal was in double figures for the third consecutive game with 11 points and nine rebounds. Dent-Smith has made four or more triples in three of the last four games.
Stanford was strong offensively, shooting 60.9 percent from the floor and 50 percent from beyond the three-point arc. The last time Stanford was over 60 percent in a game was Feb. 11, 2023 vs. Arizona, while the Cardinal has made at least nine threes in four consecutive games for the first time since Feb. 27-March 13, 2013.
In the 101st season of the series between San Jose State (5-6) and Stanford, the win is Stanford’s seventh in a row, dating back to 1992. Stanford has also won seven straight games over Bay Area programs.
The Cardinal made its first four attempts from beyond the arc, with Dent-Smith, Benny Gealer and Okpara making triples to give Stanford an early nine-point lead, 19-10. The lead was pushed to 14 points with 10:13 to play in the period, 27-13, after back-to-back baskets from Okpara, and Stanford led at the half, 44-36.
Stanford led from wire to wire, but San Jose State managed to close the gap as low as two points in the closing minutes. Rohosy scored 12 of his 20 points in the second half and Okpara and Gealer sealed the game at the free throw line to give the Cardinal its first true road win and third this season away from home.
Returning to action on its home court, Stanford welcomes UT Arlington to Maples Pavilion on Wednesday, Dec. 17 at 7 p.m. The contest will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
