Stanford Rolls to Season-Opening Win

Stanford won six event titles to defeat rival California

BERKELEY, Calif. - No. 3 Stanford men's gymnastics claimed six event titles en route to a convincing 320.100-309.700 victory over No. 9 California in Friday's season-opening meet at Haas Pavilion.

Senior Nick Kuebler highlighted the Cardinal with a pair of event titles in his first action since the 2024 campaign. Kuebler started the night with a meet-leading 14.000 on floor exercise, an event in which he won the national title in 2023.

Kuebler then added a 13.900 on still rings to pace the field, along with a fifth-place 13.250 effort on high bar.

David Shamah also secured a pair of event crowns, including a 13.750 to win the parallel bars title. Shamah also turned in podium performances on pommel horse (13.750) and floor exercise (13.700) to win the all-around with a 79.150 cumulative score.

Kiran Mandava and Wade Nelson each tallied career-high 14.200 routines to win their respective events on pommel horse and vault. Zach Green rounded out Stanford's apparatus winners with a 14.100 on high bar.

Cooper Kim recorded two second-place finishes on floor (13.900) and high bar (13.600), while Marcus Kushner earned silver on pommel horse (13.850) and Arun Chhetri placed second on pommel horse (13.550).

Friday's meet also saw strong performances from a pair of freshmen making their collegiate debuts, with Deano Roberts posting a third-place rings routine of 12.950, while Jun Iwai finished fourth on both floor (13.600) and vault (14.00).

The Cardinal returns to action on Jan. 17 at the Rocky Mountain Open, hosted by Air Force.
