Stanford Posts 196.475 in Season Opener at Denver

Bărbosu shines in NCAA debut, winning all-around crown as the Cardinal posted its second-best season-opening score since at least 2000

DENVER – Stanford earned its second-best season-opening team total since at least 2000 on Sunday, falling by .100 to host Denver, 196.575-196.475, inside Magness Arena. 

Freshman Ana Bărbosu won the all-around title in her NCAA debut, posting a 39.400 to record the best all-around competition debut by a first-year athlete in program history. Her beam score (9.900) marked the second-best debut score by a first-year athlete on the event in program history.  She finished in the top three on bars (9.825) and floor (9.875).  Redshirt freshman Levi Jung-Ruivivar opened the meet with a 9.875 on bars to claim the event title, while junior Sienna Robinson captured the beam crown with a 9.925 and earned a second-place finish on floor with the same score. 

The Cardinal kicked off the meet in Magness Arena on bars, earning a 49.050 team total led by leadoff Jung-Ruivivar’s 9.875 routine. Senior Ava Sorrento and junior Sienna Robinson opened the 2026 season with scores of 9.725, while senior Anna Roberts posted a 9.800 in her season debut. Freshman Ana Bărbosu and sophomore Ui Soma rounded out the rotation with identical scores of 9.825. 

Stanford then went to vault, posting a 49.000 team total highlighted by senior Taralyn Nguyen’s 9.900 in the fifth spot of the lineup. Freshman Alana Walker led off Stanford’s lineup with a 9.725, followed by scores of 9.800 from Bărbosu and Soma. Roberts finished the Cardinal’s scoring efforts with a 9.775 in the anchor spot. 

Halfway through the meet, Denver held a slim 98.125-98.050 lead over Stanford. 

The Card made a statement on floor, earning its best team total of the meet with a 49.275, counting only scores of 9.825 or better. Robinson secured the Cardinal’s best mark on the event with a 9.925 in the fourth spot while Bărbosu earned the second-best Stanford mark of the day in the anchor position with a 9.875. Jung-Ruivivar earned her second 9.800+ performance of the day in her NCAA debut, scoring a 9.825, while Walker and Roberts matched that score in the third and fifth spots of the lineup, respectively. 

Stanford took the team total lead for the first time in the meet after floor, leading 147.325-147.150 after three rotations.

The day ended on beam with a 49.150 team total, guided by Robinson’s title-winning 9.925 and Bărbosu’s 9.900. Senior Claire Dean started the rotation with a 9.800, followed by a 9.725 from Jung-Ruivivar. Junior Temple Landry rounded out Stanford’s scoring routines with a 9.800.

Denver posted a 49.425 team total on floor in the final rotation, led by a 9.975 effort from Cecilia Cooley to secure the .100 victory. 

The Cardinal continues its season on the road next Sunday, taking on ACC opponent North Carolina in Chapel Hill at 1 p.m. PT. The meet is slated to be televised by the ACC Network.
